Conservation, Restoration & Care

Textile Art & Craft

Hello and welcome
to the website of
Textile Conservator
and Artist, Sally Jubb.
That's me.

I trained firstly as a scientist,
and then as a Textile Conservator
at the Textile Conservation
Centre in Winchester.
I have enjoyed
creating with fabric
since childhood,
and now I get
the best of both worlds,
conserving precious
antique textiles and
creating my own
textile art.

Before
I have been engaged
by a variety of professional
Textile Conservation studios,
working on nationally important tapestries,
carpets and other textiles.

However, I now devote my time to
the conservation of
those much-loved textiles
and leather items that
people have in their homes,
workplaces, churches and social venues,
as well as to developing my own art.

After

Textiles such as samplers,
costumes and banners
can all suffer from
a variety of environmental
and insect damage,
and will continue to
deteriorate without the
appropriate care
and conservation treatment.

 I enjoy working
 on the widest variety of
 textile and leather objects.
In 2011, I worked on such diverse
items as a beaded chair, a Tibetan
wall-hanging, and an early 19th century
sampler that had been completed by the
sister of the young girl who started it,
due to the latter's untimely death.

 I have also conserved objects
 from several rural museums
in Dorset, and created  a new altar throw
for a village church in Devon.

Before

Depending on its
current condition,
a textile might be
restored to as near the
original as possible,
or conserved to
stabilize its present
state, thus reducing
the possibilty of
future degradation.

If you would like to discuss a textile, including leather,
that's in need of some Tender Loving Conservation,
please Contact Me for a free, and friendly, informal chat
with no obligation.

OR, if you need an excuse to visit the beautiful county of Devon,
you can always arrange to bring your textile along to my studio
at the Cockington Court Craft Centre, near Torquay (TQ2 6XA).

Wearing my other hat, I am always pleased to accept art and craft commissions.
